During this years Grand Fondo, I noticed that while I was cycling along in what can be described as heaven on earth for cyclists thinking I was oh so hot on my spanking new Argon 18 E 112 fresh from the Ironman (it’s not a corvette but its red) and color coordinated outfit. I noticed the woman on a rather dated bike with a rat trap on the back and skirt and flip flops passed me rather rudely. Just who does she think she is I thought, this will not do. I caught up to her and asked her what was up? She said she was an out of work artist and that it was her mother’s bike. I told her I would get her a new bike and fully plan to do so. Her name is Brita her # was 3732. I am looking at getting her a bike and some proper biking attire for her so I don’t feel so bad when she flies by me next year. I have kicked in $100 and I am looking for $50 each from metro Vancouver bike shops. When this is done I will draw the name of the contributing shop to sell her a bike I am hoping to get between $1000 and $1500, so far I am at $250 with 58 shops to go. The grand Fondo is aware and I have posted the contributing shops on their discussion page and will be putting up a similar list of shops soon on my web site willrogers.ca They wish to be kept in the loop and will hopefully provide more exposure to the contributing shops as well as the eventual bike provider.
